Landline

Even with the emergence of the mobile phone, a landline is still crucial for your business.

Echoing concerns raised in “wired vs wireless” internet connections, a landline is a secure and stable way for customers and clients to contact your business externally, and to staff use internally.

Alongside the email, a landline is a stalwart of modern communication and unlikely to be surpassed for some time.

When choosing a landline for your business, you’ll first need to choose a type of line.

Single analogue lines are used mainly for making calls, connecting to fax machines and receiving broadband.

Multi-line analogue gives you additional lines so that calls can reroute to a second line if the first is engaged.

Landlines have also started making use of the internet. Similar to wireless, these are less secure than their analogue counterpart.

ISDN are digital lines that provide connections using different channels for video and faxing.

Voice over IP lines use the public internet as a network.

Once you’ve chosen a line type, you’ll need to consider the call charges. When will your peak call times be? Will you be calling locally, nationally, overseas, mobiles, 0800 numbers and so on. Different providers have different charges.

Finally, there are the additional “business perk upgrades” that come with having a business landline. Ranging from three-way calling, caller diversion to call waiting, you may opt to choose one or more of these perks depending on the amount of use your landline to receive/its role within your business.
